Football Recap: Odyssey Institute Comes Up Short Despite Payton Lopez's Big Defensive Game

Odyssey Institute was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They lost 28-6 to the Shadow Mountain Matadors. The Minotaur were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Matadors apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in October of 2022.

Odyssey Institute didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Payton Lopez, Cory Hernandez, and Jaden Lopez picked up one apiece.

A big part of Shadow Mountain's win came down to the chemistry between Kevin Howerton and his top target Isaac Ungor. Howerton threw for 262 yards and three TDs while completing 72.4% of his passes while Ungor picked up 164 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns. Ungor is becoming a predictor of Shadow Mountain's success: when he posts at least 80 receiving yards the team is undefeated (and 2-6 when he doesn't).

Odyssey Institute's loss dropped their record down to 4-6. As for Shadow Mountain, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-6.

As of now, neither Odyssey Institute nor the Matadors have any future games scheduled.
