Basketball Recap: Esmeralda Hernandez's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Fabens over Clint

After soaring to 57 points the game before, Fabens was a bit more limited in their match on Friday. They lost to the Clint Lions at home by a 38-24 margin. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wildcats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 37-15 back in November.

Several Wildcats players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Esmeralda Hernandez, who posted six points.

Anabella Portillo was a one-woman wrecking crew for Clint as she went 8 of 15 on her way to 18 points and six steals. Portillo has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last ten times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Joana Perez-DeLaTorre, who had six points.

With the defeat, Fabens broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 13-6. As for Clint, they pushed their record up to 16-5 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Mountain View the next time they take the court. Fabens will head out to face Mountain View at 7:00 p.m. on January 7, 2025, while Clint will head out to face them at 6:00 p.m. on January 14, 2025.
