Basketball Recap: Kennedy Caldwell's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Champion over Garfield

Champion managed to keep up with Garfield until halftime on Monday, but things quickly went downhill from there. The Champion Golden Flashes came up short against the Garfield G-Men, falling 46-25. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Golden Flashes this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 42-29 back in December of 2024.

Champion lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Kennedy Caldwell, who posted six points and five steals. Caldwell is also on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted two or more in the last five games she's played.

It was another big night for Mandy Cardinal, who went 5 of 8 en route to 11 points along with six assists and six rebounds for Garfield. That's the most assists Cardinal has posted since back in January of 2024. Kylene Mcmayon was another key player, putting up seven points.

With the defeat, Champion broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 6-10. As for Garfield, their record is now 6-7.

Champion didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 56-21 loss against LaBrae on the 23rd. Garfield has also already played their next contest, a 46-41 defeat against Southeast on the 23rd.
