Cigarroa moved up to 860 from 893 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 4A Region IV District 31. The Toros climbed the ranks as a result of falling to Ray 36-20.

Adding to the longest winning streak in the league this week, Flour Bluff beat Moody 53-29. The victory was the sixth in a row for the Hornets.

Matthew Merino was a passing and rushing force as the Texans defeated Cigarroa. He completed 16 passes for 189 yards and also ran for 179 yards. Merino's favorite target this week was Myles Balderas, who caught 5 passes for 76 yards.

Eddie Guzman threw for 307 yards and 1 touchdown. He went 22-51 with 0 interceptions.

Merino was the most successful running back in the league this week. He ran for 179 yards on 24 carries as Ray fell to Ray. Tristan Barrera also contributed to the rushing game with 105 yards on the ground.

The leading receiver in the league this season is Armando Garza. The Ray star has 36 catches for 641 yards.

Merino of the Cody Simper's team is only 85 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season. In 156 carries Merino has accumulated 915 yard this year.

Two of the top teams in 4A Region IV District 31 will go toe-to-toe this week when Alice takes on Martin. The Coyotes' offense has scored 396 points this season, good for No. 1 in the league, while the Tigers have allowed only 129 on the year.

Going into this week's game against the Trojans, the Toros' Guzman needs 8 passing yards to surpass 2,000 on the season. Accruing a total of 11 touchdowns this year, Guzman has thrown for 1,992 yards with 6 interceptions.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when Flour Bluff takes on Nixon. Darrell Andrus' team is in first place, while the Mustangs are in fourth place.

The Buccaneers fell to Alice 28-3 last week, the largest margin of any game.
