Basketball Recap: Fairview Knights vs. Monarch Coyotes

After a string of three wins, the Fairview Knights's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. Their tough 64-41 defeat to Monarch might stick with them for a while. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Fairview has scored all season.

Fairview's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Bekkem Kritza, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Owen Harding, who scored five points.

Monarch's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Van Nellessen, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 13 rebounds. Nellessen is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down ten or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Riley Montemayor, who scored 12 points.

Fairview's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-8. As for Monarch, they have been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season.

Fairview won't have much time to rest: their next match is against the Tigers at 12:00 p.m. on February 3rd. That matchup will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Christopher Smith and Spencer Brown. As for Monarch, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against the Panthers at 1:00 p.m. on February 3rd. Boulder is coming into the game on a four-game losing streak.
