Baseball Recap: Lexington Comes Up Short

Lexington had lost eight straight on the road, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 2-15 to make it nine. They came up short against the Thomasville Bulldogs, falling 13-3. The Yellowjackets were not able to make up for their loss to the Bulldogs from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.

Jordon Summers made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.

As for Thomasville, their record is now 10-11. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matches by ten runs or more this season.

On Thomasville's side, Leonel Guzman was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. That's the most strikeouts Guzman has posted since back in March of 2024. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. Thomasville is undefeated when Guzman posts two or more runs, but 6-11 otherwise.

In other batting news, Thomasville let Travail Barnes and Elijah McNeair run wild. Barnes went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two doubles, while McNeair got on base in all four of his plate appearances with four stolen bases and three runs. That's the most doubles Barnes has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Mkyel Duncan, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with four stolen bases and two runs.

Coming up, Thomasville will face off against East Wilkes at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Lexington will be paying especially close attention to the Bulldogs' contest: after the Bulldogs face off against the Cardinals, they'll take on Lexington again at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
