Basketball Game Preview: Regis Jesuit Raiders vs. Ponderosa Mustangs

Regis Jesuit is 10-0 against Ponderosa since February of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Regis Jesuit Raiders will challenge the Ponderosa Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. One thing working in Regis Jesuit's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.

Regis Jesuit is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Colorado's top teams: ThunderRidge, who was ranked 12th at the time (Regis Jesuit was ranked fifth). Regis Jesuit fell just short of ThunderRidge by a score of 69-66 on Tuesday. The Raiders' loss signaled the end of their seven-game winning streak.

Despite the defeat, Regis Jesuit had strong showings from Eric Fiedler, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and ten rebounds, and Lucas Dickinson, who posted 14 points in addition to seven boards and six assists. Fiedler's evening made it 13 games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Brandon Hawkins was another key player, putting up 11 points.

Even though they lost, Regis Jesuit smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in ten consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Ponderosa played a tough contest on Tuesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were outmatched by Mountain Vista and fell 83-25. The matchup marked the Mustangs' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Ponderosa dropped their record down to 5-8 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road. As for Regis Jesuit, their defeat ended a ten-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 11-3.

Regis Jesuit didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Ponderosa in their previous meeting back in January of 2024, but they still walked away with a 59-53 win.
