Basketball Recap: Cash Slaughter's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Macarthur over Jefferson

MacArthur lost against Jefferson two weeks ago, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The MacArthur Brahmas fell to the Jefferson Mustangs 56-52. While losing is never fun, the Brahmas can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1101st, while the Mustangs are ranked 512th).

MacArthur lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Cash Slaughter, who posted 12 points and five boards. Savastain Espinoza-Carson was another key player, dropping a double-double on 12 points and ten boards.

Jefferson's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Adrien Reyna, who almost dropped a double-double on 17 points and nine rebounds. The match was Reyna's fifth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Hunter Durbon, who went 6 of 10 on his way to 15 points and five boards.

MacArthur is on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-11. As for Jefferson, their victory bumped their record up to 7-9.

MacArthur will venture away from home to face off against Southwest at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Southwest knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past three contests -- so hopefully MacArthur likes a good challenge. As for Jefferson, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 51-41 win against LEE on the 7th.
