Baseball Recap: Freeburg Find Success

Freeburg won the last time they faced Granite City and things went their way on Wednesday too. The Midgets walked away with a 5-2 victory over the Warriors.

Christian Giovando tossed a big game, striking out six batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. He is becoming a predictor of Freeburg's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 3-1 (and 11-12 when he doesn't).

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Sam Rauckman, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April. Max Biehl was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Freeburg now has a winning record of 14-13. As for Granite City, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-18.

Coming up, Freeburg will be playing at home against Centralia at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Granite City, they will head out to challenge Waterloo at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
