Baseball Recap: Newburgh Free Academy's Undefeated Season over After Three Games

Newburgh Free Academy lost against Pine Bush back in May of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Goldbacks fell just short of the Bushmen by a score of 8-7. The loss put an end to the Goldbacks' undefeated start to the season.

Chase Rounds was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over six innings pitched.

At the plate, Nick Schmidt was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. Chris Leggett was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-2.

Having lost for the first time this season, Newburgh Free Academy fell to 2-1. As for Pine Bush, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 3-0.

While Newburgh Free Academy had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday.
