The Gardiner Tigers will head out on the road to challenge the Lincoln Academy Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
Morse hit Gardiner with a six-run second inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Tigers came up short against the Shipbuilders, falling 11-1. The loss continues a trend for the Tigers in their meetings with the Shipbuilders: they've now lost four in a row.
Gardiner saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cameron Madore, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run. Greyson Greenleaf also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Lincoln Academy). They blew past Erskine Academy 8-1 on Wednesday. Lincoln Academy not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since May 10, 2024 (when they won 12-4).
AJ Giberson was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over seven innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in May of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jacob Hedrick, who went 2-for-3 with one triple and one run. Owen Cotta was another key player, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.
Gardiner's defeat dropped their record down to 6-4. As for Lincoln Academy, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-8-1.
Lincoln Academy's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Gardiner hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .341. It's a different story for Lincoln Academy, though, as they've only averaged .184. Will they be able to contain Gardiner's hitters?
Gardiner came up short against Lincoln Academy when the teams last played back in May of 2024, falling 10-6. Can the Tigers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
