The Northwood Timberwolves will face off against the Covina Colts at 3:15 p.m. on Saturday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Northwood comes in on three and Covina on four.
Northwood is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. They had just enough and edged out Santa Monica 5-4.
Katerinna Rizos was incredible, going 1-for-2 with one home run and three RBI. Marissa Lee was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs and one double.
Meanwhile, Covina got the win against University on Wednesday by a conclusive 8-1. The Colts might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten games by six runs or more this season.
Aubrey Sandoval spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Camila Rivas, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Savannah Pacheco, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Covina was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as University only posted a batting average of .167.
Northwood's record is now 13-7-1. As for Covina, their record now sits at 16-11-1.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Northwood has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.1 hits per game. However, it's not like Covina struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.4 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Northwood skirted past Covina 6-5 when the teams last played back in May of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Timberwolves since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
