Baseball Game Preview: St. Francis Gladiators vs. Petoskey Northmen

The St. Francis Gladiators will venture away from home to face off against the Petoskey Northmen at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. St. Francis is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.1 runs per game this season.

St. Francis is headed into the game having just posted their closest victory since May 6, 2024 on Wednesday. They had just enough and edged out Elk Rapids 5-4. The Gladiators haven't had any issues with the Elks recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.

Lanse Vos tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because St. Francis is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 1-2 otherwise.

On the hitting side, St. Francis let Braxton Lesinski and Tyler Thompson run wild. Lesinski went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run, while Thompson got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. That's the most RBI Lesinski has posted since back in May of 2024.

Meanwhile, Petoskey was able to grind out a solid victory over Traverse City Central on Tuesday, taking the game 7-2.

St. Francis' win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-2. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Petoskey, their record is now 5-1.
