Softball Recap: Bishop Brossart Wins Going Away Against Dixie Heights

Bishop Brossart lost to Dixie Heights back in March of 2023, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Wednesday. The Mustangs were the clear victors by a 19-5 margin over the Colonels. The Mustangs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by eight runs or more this season.

Anna Bezold spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up nine Ks. Those nine strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Rachel Shewmaker, who got on base in all six of her plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and one triple. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in hits (four). Ella Walerius was another key player, going 5-for-6 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.

The win made it two in a row for Bishop Brossart and bumps their season record up to 16-8. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 5 runs in those games. As for Dixie Heights, they dropped their record down to 2-14 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight at home.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Bishop Brossart will host Grant County at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Dixie Heights, they will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Ryle at 5:00 p.m. The Colonels' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Raiders have averaged an impressive 9.2 runs per game this season.
