Baseball Recap: Hutchinson-Central Tech Sets Scoring Season-High Against Lafayette

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Hutchinson-Central Tech). They blew past the Lafayette Generals 23-1 on Monday. Considering the Engineers have won nine games by more than nine runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Mike Guercio was incredible, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in doubles (two). Nathan Mulligan was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with five stolen bases, three runs, and one double.

Hutchinson-Central Tech kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Hutchinson-Central Tech is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.8 runs over those games. As for Lafayette, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-3.

Hutchinson-Central Tech does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Lafayette, they will head out on the road to take on McKinley at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Macks will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.
