Volleyball Recap: Mark Morris Comes Up Short

If Mark Morris was feeling good fresh off their 3-0 takedown of Hudson's Bay on Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Monarchs fell 3-1 to the Washougal Panthers on Thursday. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

While Mark Morris had to settle for second, they sure made a game of it, scoring at least 18 points in every set they played. The match finished with set scores of 25-19, 22-25, 25-18, 25-23.

Among those leading the charge was Madeline Cooley, who had 16 assists and 11 digs. That's the most digs she has posted since back in September of 2024. Ella Gustafson also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.

Mark Morris' loss dropped their record down to 4-4. As for Washougal, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 5-2.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Mark Morris will take on rival R.A. Long at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Washougal is set to face off against their familiar foe Columbia River at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
