Basketball Game Preview: Algona Bulldogs vs. St. Edmond Gaels

Algona is 8-2 against St. Edmond since January of 2020 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Algona Bulldogs are taking a road trip to take on the St. Edmond Gaels at 7:45 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both will really light up the scoreboard.

Last Friday, Algona slipped by Iowa Falls-Alden 55-54. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Bulldogs.

Meanwhile, St. Edmond entered their tilt with Clarion-Goldfield/DOWS on Friday with five consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with six. They walked away with a 66-58 win over Clarion-Goldfield/DOWS. Given the Gaels' advantage in MaxPreps' Iowa basketball rankings (they are ranked 37th, while Clarion-Goldfield/DOWS are ranked 204th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Algona's record now sits at 6-8. As for St. Edmond, their record now sits at 14-2.

Things could have been worse for Algona, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 69-53 loss to St. Edmond in their previous meeting back in December of 2024. Can Algona avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
