Soccer Recap: Newton vs. Goddard
After flying high against Arkansas City last Thursday, Newton came back down to earth. The Newton Railroaders fell victim to a rough 4-1 loss at the hands of the Goddard Lions on Tuesday. Newton was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Goddard apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2023.
Newton has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-4 record this season. As for Goddard, their victory bumped their record up to 5-2-1.
Newton will be playing in front of their home fans against Andover on Thursday. Newton will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Kansas Rankings (they are ranked 41st, while Andover is ranked third). As for Goddard, they will head out on the road to challenge Salina Central at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Salina Central's offense has struggled lately (the team hasn't scored more than a single goal for seven straight games), a trend the team is no doubt ready to end.
