Preview: Pinecrest Patriots vs. Southern Lee Cavaliers
Pinecrest is 10-0 against the Cavaliers since December of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Pinecrest Patriots will head out on the road to face off against the Southern Lee Cavaliers at 6:00 p.m. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 74-35, which was the final score in Pinecrest's tilt against the Raiders on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, Pinecrest can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 362nd, while the Raiders are ranked 45th).
Zanodiya Mcnair put forth a good effort for the losing side as she scored 16 points along with four steals. That was a full 45.7% of Pinecrest's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Meanwhile, this season hasn't been kind to Southern Lee, who are still winless after their 15th matchup. They had to suffer through a rough 71-12 loss at the hands of Scotland. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Southern Lee in their matchups with the Fighting Scots: they've now lost eight in a row.
Pinecrest has not been sharp recently as the team's lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-12 record this season. As for Southern Lee, their loss was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-15.
Everything came up roses for Pinecrest against the Cavaliers in their previous meeting back in January as the team secured a 73-26 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Pinecrest since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
