Basketball Recap: Marco Simpson Key Part of Team Effort in Cougars Win

North Charleston posted their closest win since January 3rd on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Newberry Bulldogs 61-59.

North Charleston's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Marco Simpson led the charge by going 6-for-14 en route to 17 points. Simpson is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in each of the last seven games he's played. Another player making a difference was Raymond Middleton, who went 5-for-12 to rack up 14 points and five rebounds.

North Charleston is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 15-10 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.0 points over those games. As for Newberry, their loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 10-15.

Looking ahead, a feisty cat fight will be fought as the Cougars duke it out with the Lions at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Loris will roll in looking for their ninth straight win, something North Charleston surely won't give up without a fight. Newberry does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
