Softball Recap: Lee Williams Wins Going Away Against Bradshaw Mountain

Lee Williams hadn't done well against Bradshaw Mountain recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Volunteers put the hurt on the Bears with a sharp 22-7 win. The Volunteers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine games by seven runs or more this season.

Aivree Austin made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over four innings pitched. Austin was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Lee Williams let Ava Willis-Bertram and Sami Marshall run wild. Willis-Bertram went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI, while Marshall went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Marshall is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged two or more in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Raeleigh Pugh, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

Lee Williams was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .586. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive contests.

Lee Williams' record is now 10-14. As for Bradshaw Mountain, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-9.

Coming up, Lee Williams will face off against Copper Canyon at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. The Volunteers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Aztecs have averaged an impressive 6.7 runs per game this season. As for Bradshaw Mountain, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 10-0 victory against Prescott on the 24th.
