Baseball Recap: Branchville Comes Up Short

Branchville had lost five straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped down to 9-11 to make it six. They came up short against the Edisto Cougars, falling 9-3. The Yellow Jackets were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Cougars earlier this season, when they won 3-2.

As for Edisto, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 6-9. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games.

For Edisto's part, Michael Myers made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over seven innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts Myers has posted since back in March. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. He is on a roll when it comes to triples, as he's now hit at least one in each of the last three games he's played.

Myers wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Justin Smith, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

Branchville does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Edisto, they will take on Orangeburg-Wilkinson at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
