Baseball Recap: Union Grove Beats Waukesha West for Their Third Straight Win

Union Grove got themselves on the board against Waukesha West on Saturday, but Waukesha West never followed suit. They walked away with a 5-0 win over the Wolverines. Winning may never get old, but the Broncos sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Cody Ashburn tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit over five innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Union Grove got a big performance out of Matthew Gruber, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That triple marked the first that Gruber has hit this season. Dominic Pascucci was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.

Union Grove's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-11. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Waukesha West, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-10 record this season.

Union Grove will venture away from home to square off against Marquette University at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Waukesha West, they will welcome Waukesha North at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
