Softball Game Preview: TERRA Environmental vs. Southridge Spartans

TERRA Environmental is a perfect 5-0 against Southridge since February of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. TERRA Environmental will challenge the Southridge Spartans at 3:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (TERRA Environmental has three straight wins, Southridge has six straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

While TERRA Environmental didn't have the best season last year (they finished 1-10), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They blew past Coral Park 13-3 on Wednesday. Considering TERRA Environmental has won four games by more than six runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Melissa Hernandez made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out nine over six innings pitched. She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing Three bases. while going 3-for-4.

In other batting news, Makayla Sosa was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with five stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Sophie Lorenzo-Luaces was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing Two bases. while going 2-for-3.

TERRA Environmental kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits every time they've taken the field this season.

Meanwhile, Southridge came up short against Braddock on Tuesday, falling 20-2.

Southridge's loss dropped their record down to 0-5. As for TERRA Environmental, their record now sits at 4-1.

TERRA Environmental took their victory against Southridge in their previous meeting back in April of 2021 by a conclusive 16-1. Will TERRA Environmental repeat their success, or does Southridge have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
