League recap: Cobre rises, Tularosa falls in league standings

2A District 5 league recap: 3/13/13

Cobre made the biggest jump in the standings this week, moving from fifth to second place in 2A District 5 thanks to a 2-2 record over the past seven days. Meanwhile, Tularosa fell hardest in the standings, dropping from first all the way to third place after going 0-0 in the past week. Mesilla Valley Christian (1-0) is now in first place.

The Indians had a successful week, as they won two total games to lead the league. Cobre beat Morenci 7-6 and Duncan 22-0.

The Indians boasted the best pitching over the past week, holding opponents to the league's fewest hits and issuing the fewest walks.

Cobre's Willie Fletcher struck out eight the Wildcats hitters en route to a 7-6 victory on March 8. Over his five innings pitched he allowed five runs on seven hits.



Regan Ramos's big day included five RBIs and four runs scored, as he went 3-for-3.
