Softball Game Preview: Palo Verde Valley Yellow Jackets vs. Brawley Wildcats

For the second straight game, Palo Verde Valley will face off against Brawley. The Yellow Jackets will be playing in front of their home fans against the Wildcats at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Palo Verde Valley is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.3 runs per game this season.

On Tuesday, Palo Verde Valley didn't have quite enough to beat Brawley and fell 6-5. The Yellow Jackets have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

For Brawley's part, Daniella Yescas made a splash while hitting and pitching. She tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. Yescas has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two doubles and one run.

In other batting news, Isabella Yescas and Denae Castaneda did most of the damage at the plate: Isabella went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double, while Castaneda went 1-for-2 with three RBI and one double. Those three RBI gave Castaneda a new career-high. Kaitlyn Castro was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Palo Verde Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 8-10. As for Brawley, the win snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 10-16 record.
