Softball Recap: Wharton Comes Up Short

Tuesday just wasn't the day for Wharton's offense. They took a 5-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the El Campo Ricebirds on Tuesday. Having soared to a lofty 20 runs in the game before, the Tigers' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Wharton has also traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-7 record this season. The win was the sixth in a row for El Campo, bringing their record for this year to 13-2-1.

Coming up, Wharton will challenge Bay City at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for El Campo, they will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on Needville at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (El Campo has won five straight at home dating back to last season, while Needville won three straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
