Baseball Game Preview: Shepherd Bluejays vs. Rudyard Bulldogs

The Shepherd Bluejays will face off against the Rudyard Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Shepherd will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak.

It was a Battle of the Birds when Shepherd faced off against Farwell on Tuesday. The Bluejays blew past the Eagles 16-1. The result was nothing new for the Bluejays, who have now won nine matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Brady Robinson was a standout: he went a perfect 3-for-3 with four stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Tristin Fisher was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with four stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Shepherd kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in four consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Rudyard posted their closest victory since June 5, 2024 on Monday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Pickford 8-6.

Shepherd pushed their record up to 20-6-1 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Rudyard, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-12 record this season.

Shepherd came out on top in a nail-biter against Rudyard in their previous meeting back in April of 2016, sneaking past 3-1. Do the Bluejays have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bulldogs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
