Basketball Game Preview: Winston-Salem Prep Phoenix vs. Queen's Grant Stallions

Two dominant forwards in Brandon Rorie and Chase Smith are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Winston-Salem Prep Phoenix will face off against the Queen's Grant Stallions at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Winston-Salem Prep is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Andrews, sneaking past 55-52.

Meanwhile, Queen's Grant came tearing into Tuesday's contest with ten straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 31.7 points), and they left with even more momentum. They took their match with ease, bagging a 69-41 win over the Cardinals. Given the Stallions' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 59th in North Carolina, while the Cardinals are ranked 394th in North Carolina), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Winston-Salem Prep better focus on containing Mekhi Allen and Bobby Montgomery III as the pair were huge in Queen's Grant's win. Allen went 9-for-18 en route to 24 points along with six steals and five rebounds, while Montgomery III went 7-for-12 from beyond the arc on his way to 23 points and four steals. Those 23 points gave Montgomery III a new career-high. Preston Scott was another key player, putting up six points and seven assists.

Queen's Grant was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Union Academy only eight assists.

Queen's Grant pushed their record up to 24-7 with the victory, which was their ninth straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 83.4 points over those games. As for Winston-Salem Prep, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-6 record this season.

Everything went Winston-Salem Prep's way against Queen's Grant in their previous matchup back in February of 2016, as Winston-Salem Prep made off with a 74-53 win. In that contest, Winston-Salem Prep amassed a halftime lead of 39-14, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
