Basketball Recap: Maspeth Gets the Win

Maspeth saw some tournament action on Friday. They secured a 78-72 W over the Martin Luther Cougars.

Martin Luther's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kris Skibola, who went 9 of 19 on his way to 25 points. Skibola's afternoon made it six games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Damien Peterson, who dropped a double-double on 27 points and ten rebounds.

The win got Maspeth back to even at 4-4. As for Martin Luther, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-3 record this season.

Maspeth will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Middle College at 5:00 p.m. on January 7, 2025. As for Martin Luther, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Renaissance at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Martin Luther knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past six contests -- so hopefully Renaissance likes a good challenge.
