Football Recap: Raymond Comes Up Short

Friday just wasn't the day for Raymond's offense. They had to suffer through a 36-0 loss at the hands of Richland. Raymond was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Richland apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in October of 2024.

Despite the loss, Raymond still got an impressive performance from Cj Martin, who rushed for 113 yards on only 12 carries. Martin's longest rush was for an impressive 55 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total.

Richland was led to victory by Adrean Williams and Zae'Lon Beverly. Williams rushed for 132 yards and two scores, while Beverly rushed for 81 yards and one touchdown. Williams is becoming a predictor of Richland's success: when he posts at least 80 rushing yards the team is undefeated (and 1-2 when he doesn't).

Raymond has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-5 record this season. As for Richland, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-2.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Raymond will square off against rival Forest at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Richland is set to challenge their familiar foe Mendenhall at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
