Volleyball Recap: Southwest Eagles vs. Coral Reef Barracudas

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Southwest can now relate to. They fell just short of the Coral Reef Barracudas by a score of 3-2 on Tuesday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Eagles of the 3-1 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in September.

The defeat didn't mean the game wasn't competitive: Coral Reef scored at least seven points in every set. The match finished with set scores of 25-20, 25-22, 22-25, 21-25, 15-7.

Southwest's loss came despite strong showings from Sarah Lewis and Amara Cepeda. Lewis had 35 kills, 17 digs, four blocks, and two aces, while Cepeda had 14 digs and four aces. That's the most blocks Lewis has posted since back in September. The team also got some help courtesy of Hailey DeCastro, who had nine digs and three kills.

Even though they lost, Southwest was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 11 aces. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Coral Reef only served four.

Emily Gomez had an outrageously good game for Coral Reef as she had 27 digs. Gomez is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 13 or more in the last three games she's played dating back to last season.

Southwest's loss dropped their record down to 4-18. As for Coral Reef, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 21-4.

Southwest does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Coral Reef has already played their next game, a 3-0 victory against Palmetto on the 16th.
