Softball Game Preview: Elysian Fields Yellowjackets vs. Union Grove Lions

The Elysian Fields Yellowjackets are taking a road trip to take on the Union Grove Lions at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Elysian Fields has given up an average of 12.7 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.

Elysian Fields managed to slip by Union Grove the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. Elysian Fields might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 18-9 to Union Grove, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. The Yellowjackets have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Kaylen Commander and Madi Owens stepped up to the plate in a big way. Commander scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-4, while Owens scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-4. The dominant performance also gave Commander a new career-high in doubles (two). Another player making a difference was Madi Giddens, who scored a run and stole a base while going 4-for-5.

They weren't the only ones working in the hit department: Elysian Fields kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.5 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 games they've averaged 11.

Union Grove's victory bumped their record up to 6-4. As for Elysian Fields, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-16.
