Soccer Game Preview: South vs. El Segundo

The South Spartans are taking a road trip to square off against the El Segundo Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. South's offense has struggled lately (the team hasn't scored more than a single goal for seven straight games), a trend the team is no doubt ready to end.

Tuesday just wasn't the day for South's offense. They lost 5-0 to Palos Verdes on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, the Spartans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 245th, while the Sea Kings are ranked 12th).

Meanwhile, El Segundo hadn't done well against Mira Costa recently (they were 0-8-1 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. El Segundo beat Mira Costa by a goal, winning 2-1. The score was all tied up 1-1 at the break, but the Eagles were the better team in the second half.

Max Abroms and Erik Fallon scored both of El Segundo's goals, bringing their combined season tally to 11 goals.

South's loss dropped their record down to 6-11. As for El Segundo, they pushed their record up to 12-4-1 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road.
