The Melbourne Central Catholic Hustlers will face off against the Cocoa Beach Minutemen at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Melbourne Central Catholic is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.3 runs per game this season.
Melbourne Central Catholic's last matchup with Harmony could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's contest on Thursday. The Hustlers lost 14-7 to the Longhorns. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Hustlers have suffered since April 15, 2024.
Melbourne Central Catholic got a good showing from Zack Mannes, who tossed 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the first time Mannes hasn't allowed a single hit since back in February.
On the hitting side, Austen Hester was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. That home run was his first of the season.
Meanwhile, Cocoa Beach got themselves on the board against Calvary Chapel Academy on Thursday, but Calvary Chapel Academy never followed suit. They blew past the Eagles 10-0. The high-scoring effort was just what the Minutemen needed considering they were shut out in their previous match.
Colton Marshall made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in February.
In other batting news, Vincent Barchanowicz was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3. What's more, he posted three RBI, the most he's had since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Kristian Wolfe, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-4.
Cocoa Beach kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Cocoa Beach has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a massive bump to their 14-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.7 runs over those games. As for Melbourne Central Catholic, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-9.
