The South Allegheny Gladiators are taking a road trip to challenge the Northgate Flames at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Northgate will be up against a hot South Allegheny squad: the team just extended their winning streak to five. The Gladiators' pitcher stepped up to hand Brentwood a 16-0 shutout on Tuesday.
Carrera Conley was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, South Allegheny let Cadence McBride and Cameran Colecchi run wild. McBride went a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI, one triple, and one run, while Colecchi went 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those four RBI gave Colecchi a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Sydney Gordon, who scored three runs while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.
South Allegheny always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .630. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Brentwood only posted an OBP of .200.
Meanwhile, Northgate made easy work of Shady Side Academy on Wednesday and carried off a 12-3 victory.
Like South Allegheny, Northgate also got a great game from a two-way player: Johna Abramowicz. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. Abramowicz was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Morgan Gannon, who scored three runs and stole five bases while going 3-for-3. Bayleigh Hooper was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.
Northgate has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for South Allegheny, they pushed their record up to 8-1 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. South Allegheny has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 6.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Northgate struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 5.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
