Basketball Recap: Gilbert Falls Despite Big Games from Avery Campbell and Blythe Price

Gilbert was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They took a 53-38 bruising from the South Aiken Thoroughbreds. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Indians this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 45-42 back in January.

Despite the loss, Gilbert had strong showings from Blythe Price, who almost dropped a double-double on 18 points and nine rebounds, and Avery Campbell, who posted six points and six boards. The dominant performance also gave Campbell a new career-high in assists (four).

South Aiken got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Tekinia Dixon out in front who put up 18 points in addition to six steals and five rebounds. Dixon is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last seven games she's played. Myracle Culbreath was another key player, going 5 for 9 en route to 11 points along with eight boards and five steals.

Gilbert's defeat dropped their record down to 4-15. As for South Aiken, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-9.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Gilbert has already played their next matchup (against Midland Valley), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. South Aiken will be playing in front of their home fans against North Augusta at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. North Augusta will roll in looking for their 18th straight victory, something South Aiken surely won't give up without a fight.
