Softball Recap: Newton South Takes a Loss

After flying high against Boston Latin Academy last Thursday, Newton South came back down to earth. The Lions fell just short of the Acton-Boxborough Revolution by a score of 6-4 on Monday. The Lions have struggled against the Revolution recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.

Sophie Nathanson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and two unearned) runs on 12 hits and racked up nine Ks. Those nine strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

At the plate, Zoe Spector made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-2. Riley Cabrera also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Newton South's loss dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Acton-Boxborough, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-1.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Newton South will welcome Boston Latin Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Lions' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Dragons have averaged an impressive 8.6 runs per game this season. As for Acton-Boxborough, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Westford Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Revolution's pitchers better be ready for this one: the Grey Ghosts have averaged an impressive 11 runs per game this season.
