Baseball Game Preview: Wheaton Academy Warriors vs. Sandwich Indians

The Wheaton Academy Warriors will head out to square off against the Sandwich Indians at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.

The scorekeeper got an easy start on Thursday as neither Wheaton Academy nor Chicago Hope Academy made it on the board until the fifth inning. The Warriors fell just short of Chicago Hope Academy by a score of 3-2. The Warriors have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Wheaton Academy saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Eli Tate, who went 1-for-3 with one run. Gino Spinelli also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Meanwhile, Sandwich waltzed into their game on Friday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They never let the Blue Streaks get on the board and left with a 5-0 victory.

The team relied heavily on Jeffery Ashley, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Braden Behringer, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Sandwich's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-11. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games. As for Wheaton Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 13-12.

Wheaton Academy was able to grind out a solid win over Sandwich in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, winning 6-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Warriors since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
