Softball Recap: Clayton Valley Charter Comes Up Short

If Clayton Valley Charter was feeling good fresh off their 17-0 takedown of St. Joseph Notre Dame last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Clayton Valley Charter lost 12-5 to the California Grizzlies on Thursday. The Ugly Eagles were not able to make up for their defeat to the Grizzlies from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.

Marisa Vazquez was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run while going 1-for-2. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (two). Victoria Collins was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.

Even though they lost, Clayton Valley Charter hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most two strikeouts in three consecutive matches.

Clayton Valley Charter's loss dropped their record down to 4-2-1. As for California, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-2.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Clayton Valley Charter will host Vacaville at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for California, they will welcome Alameda at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The last three games Alameda has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
