Baseball Game Preview: Sunrise Mountain Mustangs vs. Desert Ridge Jaguars

The Sunrise Mountain Mustangs are taking a road trip to challenge the Desert Ridge Jaguars at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Sunrise Mountain will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.

Sunrise Mountain barely beat Ironwood the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Mustangs blew past the Eagles 13-0 on Tuesday.

Bryce Madison was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with four RBI.

In other batting news, Chase Heid was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three doubles, and four RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. Brandon Newkirk also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Sunrise Mountain kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in four consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, Desert Ridge beat Highland 4-1 on Monday.

Dylan Taylor spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Kelton Floan, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI and two doubles. He is becoming a predictor of Desert Ridge's success: when he posts at least three hits the team is 2-1 (and 5-13 when he doesn't). Max Gamboa was another key player, scoring a run while going 3-for-4.

Sunrise Mountain's record is now 15-9. As for Desert Ridge, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-14.
