Amherst County dropped their record down to 7-5 on Monday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Rustburg Red Devils by a score of 4-3. The Lancers were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Red Devils earlier this season, when they won 4-3.

As for Rustburg, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-5. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 4 runs in those games.

For Rustburg's part, Laila Bigham spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits and racked up nine Ks. Bigham has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Rustburg's win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Nahla Bigham, who went 1-for-2 with one run.

Looking ahead, Amherst County will square off against Broadway at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Rustburg, they will face off against Brookville at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
