Softball Recap: Ithaca Victorious

While Ithaca's victory against Merrill wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Yellowjackets narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Vandals 5-3. The Yellowjackets haven't had any issues with the Vandals recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.

Ivy Davenport made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 14 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off eight hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

In other batting news, Emma Janes was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. That's the most hits she has posted over her last eight matches. Another player making a difference was Maeli Akin, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Ithaca's record is now 11-3. As for Merrill, the defeat snapped their winning streak at six games and leaves them with a 6-5 record.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Ithaca will host Central Montcalm at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Merrill, they will look to defend their home field on Monday against Vestaburg at 4:00 p.m.
