Baseball Recap: St. Charles East Comes Up Short

St. Charles East extended their losing streak to five on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 12-16 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 4-3 heartbreaker at the hands of the Geneva Vikings. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Vikings this season, with their most recent loss being a 2-1 defeat on Wednesday.

Matthew Steinberg was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over 5.1 innings pitched. What's more, he gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in April.

At the plate, James Feigleson made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Nathan Moline, who went 2-for-3 with one run.

As for Geneva, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 22-9. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games.

On Geneva's side, the team relied heavily on Nelson Wendell, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run. Brady McMillen also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

St. Charles East didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 13-11 win against Wheaton-Warrenville South on the 17th. As for Geneva, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, an 11-7 loss against St. Charles North on the 17th.
