Softball Recap: Mount Mercy Academy Gets the Win

Mount Mercy Academy hadn't done well against Sacred Heart Academy recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Magic walked away with a 7-4 win over the Sharks. The game was the first time the Magic have beaten the Sharks on their field since May 8, 2017.

Taylor Jahn made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 16 over seven innings pitched. Those 16 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one triple.

Jahn wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Natalie McOwen, who went 1-for-3 with three runs and one stolen base. Another was Riley Coughlin, who got on base in two of her four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

Mount Mercy Academy has started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 10.0 runs this season. As for Sacred Heart Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mount Mercy Academy will take on St. Mary's at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Sacred Heart Academy, they will head out to take on Lancaster at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
