Basketball Recap: Mentor Continues Home Dominance on Friday

If Euclid wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Mentor, they should've done a better job of containing Kobe Frasure-Azzano. The Mentor Cardinals strolled past the Euclid Panthers with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 88-70 thanks in part to Frasure-Azzano, who dropped a double-double on 25 points and 11 boards. He is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down ten or more in the last three games he's played.

The team also got some help courtesy of Tony Katava, who went 5 for 9 en route to 12 points. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in blocks (two).

When it comes to explaining why Euclid lost, don't look at Thai Duncan. Despite the final result, he went 11 of 21 on his way to 32 points. That was a full 45.7% of Euclid's points, marking the third time in a row he's posted more than a third of the team's points. Kye Owens was another key player, going 7 for 8 en route to 24 points along with eight boards and three blocks.

Mentor pushed their record up to 9-4 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 82.7 points per game. As for Euclid, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-10 record this season.

Mentor didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, an 81-68 win against Villa Angela-St. Joseph on the 25th. Euclid has also already played their next matchup, an 83-60 loss against Brunswick on the 28th.
