Softball Game Preview: Rochester Rockets vs. Springfield Senators

The Rochester Rockets will venture away from home to challenge the Springfield Senators at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

As a matter of fact, Rochester put up the most runs they have all season on Saturday. They blew past Galesburg 23-2. The result was nothing new for the Rockets, who have now won 11 games by seven runs or more so far this season.

Meanwhile, Springfield entered their tilt with Pawnee on Friday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They were the clear victors by a 10-4 margin over the Indians.

Mia Volpert made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 21 over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Erin Stoops, who went 1-for-2 with three runs and one double. Another player making a difference was Emma Marcum, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Springfield's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-4. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.8 runs over those games. As for Rochester, the win snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 19-6 record.

Rochester came out on top in a nail-biter against Springfield in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, sneaking past 3-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Rockets since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
