Preview: Chaparral Cowboys vs. Foothill Falcons
Chaparral is 0-6 against Foothill since December of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. Having just played yesterday, the Chaparral Cowboys will get right back to it and host the Foothill Falcons at 6:30 p.m. on January 26th. Chaparral will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Nevada Rankings (they are ranked 66th, while Foothill is ranked sixth).
Chaparral suffered their closest loss yet this season on Thursday. They fell just short of Shadow Ridge by a score of 55-53.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Qualib Ghallab, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 16 rebounds. Ghallab is absolutely dominating the rebound category: he's posted at least eight every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Rayshawn Armstead, who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds.
Foothill posted their biggest victory yet this season on Saturday. They put the hurt on Las Vegas with a sharp 66-43 victory. Winning is a bit easier when you work as a team to rack up seven more assists than your opponent, as Foothill did.
Brock Stearman was the offensive standout of the match as he scored 16 points along with six rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Branden Castro was another key contributor, scoring 14 points.
Chaparral has been struggling recently, as they've lost six of their last eight matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-14 record this season. As for Foothill, their win bumped their record up to 12-8.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Chaparral have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 39.9 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Foothill struggles in that department as they've been averaging 26.2 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Chaparral came up short against Foothill in their previous meeting back in December of 2022, falling 55-45. Thankfully for Chaparral, Collier Roberts (who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds and four steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
