Softball Game Preview: Santiam Wolverines vs. Regis Rams

For the second straight game, Santiam will face off against Regis. The Wolverines will look to defend their home field on Friday against the Rams at 2:00 p.m. Santiam is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 12.1 runs per game this season.

Santiam is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Regis just ended the team's six-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Rams by a score of 8-7.

For Regis' part, Addie Bishop spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and three unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up 12 Ks. Bishop has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Hadley Foster was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Olivia Adams was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

Regis' win was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-2. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Santiam, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-7.

Friday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Santiam has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .529. However, it's not like Regis struggles in that department as they've averaged .503. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
