Softball Recap: Wood Comes Up Short

Wood fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Rodriguez on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Mustangs by a score of 7-6. The Wildcats were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Mustangs earlier this season, when they won 4-1.

Madisyn Farnham spent all 7.1 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and four unearned) runs on ten hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Wood saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Aubrey Redline, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI. Lily Anderson was another, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with one RBI.

Wood's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 13-7. As for Rodriguez, they moved to 8-9 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Wood will face off against rival Pioneer at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Wildcats 3.9, the Patriots 2) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Rodriguez is set to challenge their familiar foe River City at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
